Punk trio Green Day are set to release a trilogy of albums, in their return after 2009’s 21st Century Breakdown. Each album will be released individually with the third offering in January 2013.
Frontoman of the veteran rockers, Billie Joe Armstrong announced the release of ”¡UNO! ¡DOS! ¡TRE!’ on his Twitter (11th April). Along with the announcement he provided a video building the suspense for his fans.
2012 marks Green Day‘s 25 year anniversary since they formed in 1987 which is a brave step. It’s yet to be seen if each album will have similar themes but Green Day has already described their return as a departure from the concepts of their smash hit albums American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown.
The announcement came just days before Green Day induct Guns N’ Roses into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (14th April). With Axl Rose declaring his refusal to show up, Billie Joe Armstrong has added some new interest to the event as the spotlight will be turned on his band.
Green Day are yet to announce any dates in the UK for this summer’s festivals but will be playing in Japan and Europe, although it’s difficult to begrudge them when they have a lot of work to do. Though Green Day‘s American Idiot musical will be in the UK later this year, including a fortnight slot at London’s HMV Hammersmith Apollo in December.
