EMI, September 2011.

Sunday (1st January 2012) saw Coldplay make the first Number one of the year with ‘Paradise’. Though the song from their 2011 album Mylo Xyloto was released earlier last year.

Their appearance on The X Factory probably penetrated the mainstream concious but die hard fans were more partial to their intimate gig at Camden’s Dingwalls.

‘Paradise’ was the band’s first chart topper since 2008 with ‘Vivaa La Vida’. Their last hit was one of the title tracks from their album that year, Viva la Vida or Death And All His Friends.

If this is a sign of things to come then it’s likely boring music will rule the roost once again for 2012. Although it’s a positive sign that we have a British number one.
